Foot cream with microcrystalline chitosan

Dry feet, cracked heels, calluses – when you need more than a regular cream

The skin on the feet has no sebaceous glands – it does not moisturize itself like the skin on the face or arms. This results in a natural tendency to dryness, calluses, and cracking, which is exacerbated by wearing shoes, standing on hard surfaces, and seasonal temperature fluctuations. Most foot creams address this problem with a single strategy: lipid replenishment – glycerin, petrolatum, or oils create an occlusive layer on the skin surface but do not reach the root of the problem.

More effective foot creams combine two mechanisms: urea (UREA) helps remove calloused epidermis, preparing the skin to absorb active ingredients, while microcrystalline chitosan forms a bioadhesive moisturizing film on the freshly exposed epidermis. UREA opens, chitosan moisturizes – two steps in one product.

Read more about the properties of chitosan on the microcrystalline chitosan properties page.

Currently in the RegCare offer: foot cream with 5% chitosan and 5% UREA – detailed composition and usage instructions can be found on the product page.

Who is the foot cream with UREA and chitosan for?

  • Dry, rough feet prone to calluses: Daily use of the cream with 5% UREA and chitosan gradually softens calloused areas and restores the smoothness of the skin on the feet. The 5% concentration is a mild range, designed for regular, daily care.

  • Cracked heels: Cracked heels are a sign that the skin is not only dry but also too rigid – it cannot keep up with the movements of the foot and cracks under pressure. Chitosan moisturizes deeper, while UREA softens the excessively calloused surface layer – regular use helps gradually improve elasticity and reduce cracking.

  • Tired feet after a long day: Moisturized, nourished foot epidermis means fewer burning sensations after a long day in shoes. Evening application of the foot cream is one of the simpler elements of discomfort prevention.

  • Skin requiring special care, including diabetes: Foot care is particularly important in diabetes, when the skin loses moisture faster and minor cracks heal more slowly.

Note: In the case of diabetes, always consult the choice of foot preparations with your attending physician. Foot creams are cosmetic products – for deep heel cracks, fungal changes, or hard-to-heal wounds, consult a podiatrist or dermatologist.

Chitosan and urea in foot cream – what you need to know

The synergy of UREA and chitosan distinguishes this type of preparation from typical foot creams based solely on lipid replenishment. Urea (UREA) is a natural component of the skin's NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor) – at a 5% concentration, it softens and helps remove the calloused epidermis without irritation, preparing the conditions for the deeper action of the next ingredient.

Microcrystalline chitosan, applied to the skin after the action of UREA, penetrates the prepared epidermis and forms a bioadhesive film that reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL) – it moisturizes deeper than lipid replenishment alone. A dual mechanism: exfoliation and callus removal + lasting hydration in one product.

RegCare products are manufactured in our own laboratory in Jelnik, under ISO 7 cleanliness conditions. We produce the microcrystalline chitosan ourselves – it is the core of the CHITOMED P.S.A. technology.

How to use foot cream with chitosan and UREA?

  1. Apply the cream morning and evening after washing – apply to the heel, sole, and sides of the foot, avoiding the skin between the toes.

  2. Cotton socks worn after the evening application enhance the effect through occlusion – especially helpful for cracked heels.

  3. The first softening of the skin is noticeable after a few applications; significant improvement with deeper cracks requires consistency for 2–4 weeks.

Detailed instructions for use and dosage can be found on the product page.

FAQ – frequently asked questions about foot creams with UREA and chitosan

How does urea (UREA) work in foot cream?

UREA is a natural component of the skin's NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor) that works in two ways: it moisturizes the stratum corneum and – depending on the concentration – softens the calloused epidermis, supporting its gradual exfoliation. A 5% concentration is a mild range, suitable for daily care. Higher concentrations (10%, 20%, 30%) work more intensively on advanced calluses and are typically used in shorter treatments under the supervision of a podiatrist.

How long does it take to see results for cracked heels?

The first softening is noticeable after a few applications – UREA starts working quickly. Closing deeper cracks usually requires 2–4 weeks of regular application morning and evening, preferably with cotton socks after the evening application. For deep cracks or wounds, consult a podiatrist.

When is a foot cream with 5% UREA sufficient, and when is a higher concentration needed?

5% UREA is the range for daily care of dry feet, cracked heels, and mild calluses – with regular use, it provides lasting results without the risk of irritation. Higher concentrations (10–30%) are used for advanced hyperkeratosis and corns, usually in short, intensive treatments under the control of a podiatrist, rather than as a daily preparation.
