Chitosan in Shower Gel – What You Need to Know

Microcrystalline chitosan is a natural polymer with a positive charge, which allows it to bind to the negatively charged surface of the skin. During washing, this leads to bioadhesion – chitosan attaches to the epidermis and forms a thin film that remains after rinsing.

This film helps reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and supports the skin barrier after bathing, rather than only cleansing the surface.

How to Use Shower Gel with Chitosan?

Apply to wet skin and wash with lukewarm water – hot water can weaken the lipid barrier and reduce the effectiveness of the protective film.

Rinse thoroughly; chitosan remains on the skin, but excess product may cause a slightly sticky feeling.

Suitable for daily use thanks to the gentle, sulfate-free formula.

For very dry skin, apply a body lotion immediately after showering on slightly damp skin to enhance hydration.

Does Savon Noir contain chitosan?
